DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that after a few year’s break the Fun Run is back for 2024! \nNow managed and ran by Wythall Community Association this year’s event will be on Sunday 23rd June 2024. \nWe’ll be raising funds for Primrose Hospice whilst your support will also contribute to the money needed for the upkeep of The Park. \nFeaturing the 10K & 5K races on closed roads we also introduce our all new Families On Track in Wythall Park! \nIf you’re new to running\, visit the Couch to 5K page for more information on getting started. \nIf you’d like to volunteer\, have a stall\, do a demonstration\, provide music\, runner’s pre-race warmups or something else\, we’d love to hear from you. DESCRIPTION:The D Day 80th Anniversary Celebration and Family Day at Wythall Park on Sunday June the 9th (from midday to midnight!) promises to be a fabulous day. \nLots and lots going on\, including the following in Park Hall (unless otherwise stated): \n\n\n\n\n\n2.00pm – Wythall Community Choir (Britannia Room)\n2.00pm Fun in The Park – games\, craft\, chat and fun for children of all ages\n4.00pm – Cheswick Green Ukulele Orchestra\n5.00pm – The Kings Norton Youth Marching Band (Wythall Park)\n5.30pm – Cheswick Green Ukulele Orchestra\n7.00pm – The Boogaloo Babes\n7.45pm – Salsa demonstration and free class\n8.30pm – The Boogaloo Babes\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlso available:\n\nDobson’s Fair\nExhibitions from Wythall History Society and\nWythall Parish Council (Britannia Room)\nVintage Buses from Wythall Transport Museum\nTea and Cakes from Pearls of Wythall WI\n\n\n\n\n\n… and finishing with one of our celebrated fireworks displays (9:30pm)! \nWythall Transport Museum will have vintage buses in the car park\, Wythall History Society and Wythall Parish Council both have exhibitions in the Britannia Room\, plus lots of food and craft stalls on the Park. And bars in Park Hall (from 3.30pm) and The Community Club (from noon). \nWe also have Dobson’s fair to keep everyone entertained in between times! \nWe need volunteers (you must be over 18 years of age) to help marshal the event from noon (set up) through to 10pm (firework finish). You WILL NOT be security\, you are just there to help visitors find their way around the Park\, to ensure they don’t miss out on anything! Sign up for any shifts you can do\, and those you can do ‘if pushed’. We promise not to take advantage of your good nature and will ‘spread the load’ of the shifts over all of the volunteers. \nI’d like to volunteer – CLICK HERE!

DESCRIPTION:On the actual 80th anniversary of D-Day (6th June)\, at 9:15pm\, as part of the national memorial\, we are lighting the beacon on the mound in the park. \nWe are honoured to have Wythall and Bletchley Park legend Betty Webb actually lighting it\, with the Rev Manda Featherstone\, from St Mary’s\, whom many of you will know from the annual Remembrance Day service\, reading the tribute to the fallen. \nThe Tribute\nLet us remember those who gave their lives at\nhome and abroad during the D-Day landings\,\nwhose sacrifice enables us all to enjoy the\npeace and freedom we have today. \nLet us remember those who came home\nwounded\, physically and mentally\, and the\nfriends and family who cared for them. \nLet us remember those who returned to restore\ntheir relationships and rebuild their working\nlives after years of conflict and turmoil. \nLet us remember the families that lost husbands\,\nwives\, sons\, daughters and sweethearts. \nLet us remember the servicemen and women\nand merchant seafarers of all nationalities –\nfrom all countries – who fought\, suffered and\ndied during the D-Day landings and six years\nof war. \nLet us all remember those in the Royal Navy\,\nArmy\, Royal Air Force\, Merchant Navy\, and our\nAllies – the brave people who kept us safe on\nthe home front and abroad and those in\nreserved occupations during the difficult time of war. \nLet us remember the brave doctors and nurses who\ncared for the wounded\, the men and women who\ntoiled in the fields\, the coal mines\, the factories\nand the air raid wardens\, police officers\, firemen\,\nambulance drivers and the young people of the Scouts\nand Guides who all played such a vital role in the war. \nStandard Bearer – Albert Bishop \nBugler – Sam Hewitt from Kings Norton Youth Marching Band

SUMMARY:Kevin Turner Celebration Night
DESCRIPTION:Some sad\, but not unexpected news this week\, as Kevin Turner announced he is stepping back a little from what seems like a lifetime’s commitment to Wythall. If you were to list his current roles\, you would start with Wythall Tennis Club\, slip gracefully through Wythall Community Association charity trustee and past the WCA Management Team. Beer and Cider festival barman. Fireworks and Fun Run marshal. There’s not a lot he doesn’t do. \nOne of the more recent crowning achievements of the Park\, is Sally and the annual Santas’s Sleigh. No-one really knows who Santa is\, the Christmas equivalent of The Stig (although we are told that Larissa the Naughty Elf has sat on his lap\, so she might)\, but without naming names\, I can confirm that Kevin’s ‘stepping back’ means there will be auditions for the man in the red suit come November. Big shoes (well\, black wellies) to fill! \nWe’ve decided that we need a party to celebrate some of Kevin’s achievements\, so Wythall Tennis Club and a very grateful WCA and WCC invite you and your family to join us in the Britannia Room on the evening of Saturday April 13.
